About The Lincoln Homecoming Wiffleball Tournament The Lincoln Homecoming Wiffleball Tournament was first held on a windy Saturday in July of 1997 at Mattanawcook Junior High School in Lincoln, ME. Thirteen teams participated in the first competition, which was then known as the Snack Shack Wiffleball Tournament. The highlight of the inaugural event besides the dominance of Chad Wong and "The Law" was the eight foot high "Black Monster" on the main field. This wanna-be replica of Fenway Park didn't last long due to the strong wind gusts!
In 2000 the tournament moved to the relatively tranquil Mattanawcook Academy athletic fields and really became an annual tradition of Lincoln's Homecoming celebration. Each year the number of teams and participation has grown, with a record 23 teams participating. Each year, co-founders Mark McCafferty and Jason Clay try and make the tournament bigger and better. They added a free hot dog roast to the tournament in 2004, and in 2007 passed out official T-Shirts to all participants. The tournament was moved to the Saturday BEFORE Lincoln's Homecoming Celebration in 2005. This eliminated any conflicts with Homecoming events, and made the tournament even more popular. The 12th annual tournament held in 2008 featured a new title sponsor, Katahdin Cellular - US Cellular Authorized Agent. It also featured the second year of tournament stat keeping. $250 was donated to the Lincoln Recreation Department. The 13th annual tournament held in 2009 featured the most exciting finish in tournament history as 3 time defending tournament champs Dynasty mounted an incredible comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning to win their fourth straight title. The 14th annual event is scheduled for July 10th, 2010 and will feature bat limitations for the first time in tournament history designed to even the playing field. Proceeds of the tournament are donated to the Lincoln Recreation Department. |

The
tournament was held on the shores of Mattanawcook Lake at the Junior High
athletic fields for two more years, with a local team, "Pain,"
capturing the second title. Chad Wong and his Bangor All Stars came
back to win the 1999 tournament.
